In earliest days when I began to making graphics for events, I worked for Beijing LGBTQ center as volunteer under their transgender program. The work didnt last too long before the program stopped running and the whole institution was forced to close in May, 2023.
Later, I worked as coordinator for weekly craft events at nugget, a record label and a well-rounded cultural space. I love the owner of the venue, he is very tolerant with my weird design style. And I got to make some really cute/goofy/quirky posters that I like a lot in this work. The venue also had to close in August, 2023.
It is not only a creative medium and a skill to work with, but also an important tool for self-publishing, self-organization and self-platforming. I'm tired of being disciplined by commercialized, neat and tidy, middle-class aesthetic and space. I think people like us belong to a generation (Gen Z) that grew up in an era of fragmented information and exploding aesthetic clutter.
Over the years, I've learnt so much from these self-organized craft events, workshops, jammings, underground gigs, etc. The graphics of these events might be simple, but they are always so lively with its overspilling DIY spirit. Seeing posters like that, we know we're going to join a lovely crowd.
If you also believe in chaotic maximalism, believe in the pow、er of quirkiness in the crack of the system, my commissions are open. Let me know if you are a start-up organizer, or the design is for queer, espeically FLINTA community.
